Ugly Lamp Update – How to Take a Lamp Apart

Well, it is time to tackle the ugly lamps.

Before I can get to the part I like, there is some prep work to do. Have I mentioned that I hate prep work? This is why Mr. Amazing usually jumps in. He knows I will be happier in the long run if it is done right, but I get too excited and I just want to do the job.

Let’s start by tipping over the lamps to unscrew them to take them and take them apart.

WHAT?!?!?  What do I see?

Look at the bottom of my “butt ugly” lamps…

I’m sorry that the picture isn’t better…let me read the price tag for you. $240.00! Yes…that would be a piece..

At this point, let me remind you that I paid $2.00 a piece for them.

My deal just got so much better in my mind. Now I just need to make them look …not so “butt ugly”…maybe even pretty.

In case you have never taken a lamp apart before, I thought I would show you how it is done.

First, we turned the lamps over and unscrewed the bottom.

Then we use a screwdriver to kind of pry the pieces apart….

Sometimes they can be a bugger, but keep at it and it will come apart. By the way, Mr. Amazing doesn’t do everything around here. I took the first lamp apart but I couldn’t take pictures of myself doing it.

These lamps had a little piece of plastic that needed to be pried back. We had never seen that before…usually there are just screws.

Once that wire is undone, just start pulling everything apart.

Stay tuned…the transformation pictures are coming…

Have you ever taken a lamp apart? If so, do you have any tips to add?

Wow! Thanks! To bad your example didn’t have the screw version, I wasn’t sure at first what you meant… but because of your step by step, I was able to look at my light fixture and remove the wiring! I want to modify a mesh garbage pail into a light fixture. 🙂
