And So We Wait…

For all you expectant mothers out there, I thought you might like to know what the life of an expectant grandmother looks like.

First Trimester

Yay!!! We are going to be grandparents! Wait…what do you mean don’t tell anyone? Well, I understand you want to tell people …how long will that take you? Personally??? Really? You tweet everything…why does this have to be done personally?

We sit and wait…

Second Trimester

We finally have been allowed to tell our friends…but we now realize that even though childbirth is as natural as pooping, nothing is done the way we did it.

Learning to keep mouth shut.

Parents are looking for baby names…we are looking for grandparent names.

Third Trimester

We are on baby watch. We have no clue when it could happen. We don’t know if you have been up all night timing contractions and just haven’t called us yet…

So here is how it goes..

Take a walk…hmmmm what if they call? How far would I be from the car…

Take a shower…will I hear the phone? Better only do that when someone can phone sit for me…

Throw in a load of laundry…what if we get the baby call? The baby could be 6 weeks before I remember to change it over.

Cook dinner…what if they call and I forget that I have stuff in the oven?

Forget ironing…house might burn down if I run out with the iron on…that would be a bad thing because I have a ton of baby stuff here that I haven’t admitted to anyone yet I have bought…

This waiting is hard stuff….so be nice to us grandparents-to-be…and remember we  sleep in shifts for fear of missing the call so we might not seem ourselves these days.

LOVED the “learning to keep mouth shut” comment. So true! And they definitely do things different than when we were having kids…

Ok, Im starting to get a little bit of baby fever between reading about this and friends having babies – it’s everywhere lol! I’m probably fairly close to your daughters age so I suppose I still have some time left for another – if only they stayed small….sigh…
Well, happy waiting :) Anticipation is half the fun!

    • I had all three of my kids by the time I was 27…I thought I was done…then God laid adoption on my heart and at 38 I got my baby…I always vote for more babies….

Wow – 3 at 27 is a handful! My parents already had teenagers and then ( oops ) had my identical twin and I at 39 ( mom ) and 43 ( dad ) :o

I’m also on anxious – for you! When I check your blog, and notice you didn’t post in the past 24 hours, I keep wondering… did it happen? Was the baby born? Where are the pictures? Why hasn’t Dianne posted any pictures yet…Doesn’t she realize we want to know too…. You do realize you will need to tell us as soon as it happens….

Hey! Wait! Who’s that “other” Tammy? LOL
Anyway, this totally cracked me up! I could SO imagine those thoughts going through my head too. You are so funny Dianne. Always a treat to stop by here!
