Two Liters of Summer Fun…

We went to a lake house last summer and were joined for a few days by our nephew and his son. What a wonderful time we had connecting during that time. We have always been close to our nephew, even though he doesn’t live near by.  He calls regularly to ask advice or to share some good news..and sometimes he just calls.  We feel blessed to also be a part of his son’s life, so when they decided to drive  hours to spend a few days with us, we were thrilled…but we had nothing for a five year old to play with. Sure he had brought some of his toys…and the lake was entertaining enough..but I decided to see about getting creative.

I took an empty 2 liter soda bottle and cut holes in it…

I used a steak knife because it was all that I had, but if you could figure out how to make holes rather that slits, it probably would be better.

We then wrapped duct tape around the lid to attach it to the hose. Yes, we really do take duct tape with us on vacation…you never know. Add some water…and a kid…

And what do you get?

A ton of fun!!!

  1. I love that you take duct tape on vacation! It looks like he had fun! I’m visiting from A Glimpse Inside, your blog is great!

  2. That is an awesome idea! We have a sprinkler head that shoots water in such a way the kids can’t get too close or risk injury – this is a great alternative for letting our boys be boys! xoxo michele

  3. That’s just an ingenious idea!

  4. that gave me an idea….maybe if you use an awl for the holes, and plummer’s tape in place of the duct tape? did the duct tape leak?

We make bird feeders out of old 2 liter bottles and to make the holes we fill the bottle almost full of water and freeze it. Then you can take a hammer and nail and pound round holes in the bottle.

We used a thumbtack/push pin to make the holes in the bottles.
