New House Update

I thought it might be about time to give you all an update on the new house….

As most of you know we sold our house in one day…and then moved into our guest cottage.

It has now been 4 months of the three of us living in 500 sq feet. I must admit that it has been easier than I thought it would be. The hardest part has been that our house has always been the go to house. If there needs to be a family gathering it was done at our house most of the time. We have had to get a bit creative at times but it is working.

What has been the hold up? Well, since we sold so quickly we didn’t have a house plan drawn yet…that took time…then we had to get the builder to price it…that took time. In fact it took a lot more time than I expected because it happened to be during the holidays. Now it is at the bank. They have told us that we have been approved for the loan but now they are doing the appraisal to make sure the house is worth it. Since house prices have dropped so much in the past couple of years the bank is hesitan to hand out loans for fear that the house will be worth less tomorrow than what they have in it….so we wait…and bite our nails.

We have been leary of doing anything to the main house for fear that this will all blow up in our face and we will need to either sale or rent the house out…but I’m getting antsy so Mr. Amazing agreed to start removing some of the wood from the walls.

As you may know I have fallen in love with the look of wood ceilings…

Our tear down house has all kinds of toungue and groove wood on the walls and ceilings. We drilled a hole in the ceiling and pulled out the insulation. Mr. Amazing was conveniced that it would be asbestus…but we sent it off to be tested and we were good.YAY!!!

We carefully measured all the wood and we should have just enough for the painted wood to do the living and dining rooms…and the stain wood will good on the ceilings of the porches.

Taking the wood off is tricky…you have to make sure that you don’t tear up the tongue and groove. I’m not to good at this so Mr. Amazing is doing most of the work…as usual. But hey…at least I blog and give him credit …right?

He wanted me to show you this…

And tell you that this is why it is so important that you use PT up against concret….it will rot if you don’t!

Keep your fingers crossed…the bank should get back with us in a week…
