Yes… I know that I am a bit premature worrying about the exterior color of my new house but I have been thinking about it for 4 months now and I still haven’t come up with a plan. So I’m guessing it is good that I started early. I know that long before the paint comes the tile roof…and I have to know what the paint is going to be so that they will work together….
Sometimes I feel like building a house is like doing a very large Rubics cube. One thing affects another which affects another.
This was my old house…
We called it “Dianne Tan” because I couldn’t find a tan shade, out of the hundreds and hundreds of them out there, that I liked. Many of them had a pink glow to them…some turned white in full sun…some were too dark in the shade.
What I did love. is the way the white trim popped with it.
This is my house that we are about to tear down…very soon.
We painted it yellow when we bought it 7 years ago. It use to be this color…
A really dirty tan…so I am having a hard time imagining putting up a new house and painting it tan…I really don’t want to be reminded of this place.
As we have been demolishing the house we also found that the house was this lovely tourquise at one time. I can’t imagine what the homeowners were thinking…or for that matter …what the neighbors thought.
And apparentlly army green was once a good idea to them too…
I loved this green house until I found that army green paint. Look how nice the white pops.

But….I think I want a blue front door and that wouldn’t go with the green.

I love the feel of this house….I wish I knew what color they used…Sometimes when I look at it, it looks tan and other times it seems to have a bit of grey to it… yet it doesn’t seem too dark. Remember this is a beach house…not a mountain home. Please send me any paint suggestions you’ve got. At some point I am going to have to come up with an answer…Oh and remember…the porches will have stained wood ceilings.

Ok folks…you may have noticed that I goofed. I saw a picture of my old house and posted it without really thinking. I totally forgot that we had painted the house green before we sold it…so yes the picture is of a green house not a Dianne Tan house. Guess I shouldn’t work on posts early in the morning. hehehee
I understand your problem.
We are doing some work on our kitchen.
Hubby removed all the wallpaper and tiles the wall behind the sink and the one
across the room by the mixer. Now we have been looking at beige-tan colors.
I presently have 9 colors from different companies on the wall. Some are colors
that my niece has in her new home and in her house they look great. On my walls not so nice. I think we have settled on one so now I can’t wait for the painting to begin but it will be a few more weeks until it is finished.

It’s funny how colors can look soooo different in different houses. I loved some wallpaper my girlfriend had once…I got it for my house…ofter getting her ok..and instead of white..the back ground looked gray in my house. I am so excited for you…enjoy the journey!
What about gray with blue doors and white trim? I think that would be very nice together and seems beachy too. and maybe with a darker gray/charcoal roof.
Good luck with this decision. I think we need to set our chairs up in the park with all our paint chips and gaze where the house will be.
I know your pain all too well! The house we bought had just been updated the month before we bought it in an effort to sell it quickly. They did a great job on the inside, but the color they chose to paint the outside was green ( a really ugly shade at that ) and pink. We did not like it at all! I went on a hunt for a beigey gray tone. I thought I had found it – we even tested a section of the wall in back of our home, but…..it turned out not so great
I really don’t care for the color at all. It’s certainly better than the green & pink, but it pains me to see it every time I pull up and know that we paid for this color that I do not care for
My parents recently painted their home and I found a nice beigey gray color that I really like that they ended up using. It’s called Bennington Gray by Benjamin Moore. I think it may be a couple years old though.
Here is a link to an example of it in case you are interested…
