Looking for the Perfect Range Hood

I have been on the search for the perfect range hood. I’m not sure why this has turned into such a big deal, but it has. My old kitchen just had the microwave above the stove…it worked for 25 years, but the truth is I am short…and I will probably get shorter with age so I don’t want to continue to have to reach over the stove.

When I first started this journey I thought I would be going with a hood like this…

Ikea range hood

But I found that my husband kept referring it as the tin man’s hat…some how I can’t look at it in the same way anymore…sorry if you have one.

The man at the store tried to talk me into something like this…

BROAN range hood

Which is very nice but I can just imagine how much grease and dust would be on that glass.

I then thought I would go with something like this…

I had no idea how expensive it could be…and I really don’t think it will look that good over the wimpy stove top I will be putting in.

The truth of the matter is….I don’t cook. Well I do..maybe a couple of times a week …so it is really funny how much thought is going into this kitchen.

I think I have decided….that is my favorite saying with this house…hehehe…I think I have decided to just have the cabinet maker make something that matches the cabinets..I have heard that stainless steal my be going out…and even though I am buying all stainless steal appliances I would hate to some day have to spend a bunch of money to replace a rangehood that I may have used twice…when I burnt something.

I found this rangehood and for some reason it caught my eye…

I won’t be having that grand stove under it, but I still think it could work.. You need to go to http://thepolohouse.blogspot.com/2011/02/kitchen-renovation.html and check out this whole kitchen…I’m in love!!!!!

I found out that you pay a whole lot of money to add those lighted little cabinets above the other cabinets ..

So I won’t be having those …I just keep telling myself that I am saving myself stress on what to put int them…hehehhee.

If you have a rangehood that I may not have seen browsing thru pinterest please send me a picture.

I like the one you’re thinking of – less “in your face”. I also DON’T like stainless steel (although I have it). It’s a pain to keep looking nice with all the fingerprints. I’m going to switch to white as soon as possible – just sayin’ :)

I also like the same one as you & I LOVE the lighted cabinets!
Did the person you spoke to mention what is going to be the “new” thing ( or is white & or black coming back ) if stainless steel is on the way out?

  3. I heard that shiny white is on it’s way in…guess people are tired of the fingerprints on the stainless…but I also read that stainless is here to stay…so who knows

I found that baby oil is a much, much better surface treatment for my stainless fridge – it lasts ages compared to the other stuff I had. I don’t have to wipe down fingerprints nearly as often. Put it on, buff it off, that’s it. Smells good, too! :)

I love the range hood you choose.

I bought really tall cabinets for one area of our kitchen – they go all the way to the ceiling. They aren’t as cool as the little lighted ones but they look great and I can stash all sorts of little-used items up there. That I can’t reach without a stool, and I’m actually tall!
