I do not have a food processor. And no, it is not because I am living in a 500 sq foot cottage. I have just never had one. I am not really sure what I would use one for.
So for all of you out there that are wondering how you could live without one, I thought I would show you how I make a graham cracker crust the old fashion way.
Simply take about 10 graham crackers and place them in a ziplock bag….try to remove as much air as possible and then make sure the bag is totally zipped shut.
Then gently roll with a rolling pin. I actually find this very therapeutic….unless of course the bag breaks…but that only happens when I am “REALLY’ stressed out.
Then pour the crumbs into a mixing bowl and add 6 tablespoons of melted butter and 1/4 cup of sugar. You can use less sugar if you want.
Then simply take the mixture and press it into a pie plate. I have heard that some people then stick their crust into the oven for about 8 minutes to dry it out. I personally really like mine moist so I have never done that.
Every time I have ever made a graham cracker crust I wonder why I have ever bought one. They are soooo much better homemade..and so easy.
So…now that I have shared with you on living without a food processer, please tell me why I need one. My new kitchen will have plenty of space for it, but I really don’t know if I need one.

I also do not have a food processor, but my reason is because I break them. I crushed my graham crackers in my blender.
You need a food processor for a regular pastry pie crust, or to make pesto. Julia Child said that the food processor is what makes the best pie crusts. When it comes to graham cracker crumbs, I crush mine in a bag like you did.
I got one for my wedding 17 years ago and when we moved 5 years later it had never come out of its box so I gave it away. Fast forward to two years ago. . .my mother gave me a beautiful Viking Food Processor. . .I’ve used it 3 times maybe? It’s heavy and takes up a lot of room. . .so. . .I won’t be the one to talk you into one either
Now my Kitchen Aid stand mixer? I use that almost every day. . .
I have a food processor and use it a few times a year, but when I do I am so glad to have it. I make sloppy joe type sandwiches for 50 people (Super Bowl) and add ground up carrots, onions, radishes, peppers and celery to ground beef/ground turkey. If I didn’t have the processor it would take days to grind up all the veggies. Mine is not huge or heavy and I like it!
I use mine to fine chop veggies, but I really like to use it to grate soap for homemade laundry detergent.
