I am still trying to figure out what to do with the TV in my house that I am building. I had told you before that I was trying to decide if I should put the TV over a fireplace or over a piece of furniture.

I got all kinds of advice. That only confused me more. I found that most of you either loved or hated the fireplace idea. I have decided that no fireplace was the way to go. I had to trim the budget somewhere… but I can’t visualize what the furniture should look like under the television.
I decided to go furniture shopping…something I just love to do. If I am going to give up my fireplace focal point, then I need a wonderful piece of furniture to be the “wow”…To me no matter how great my TV is, it is not a wow focal point. My son in law might disagree with me, but this is my house..hehheee
I found this cabinet
it was very nice. As you can see the cabinet has a lot of storage space, but I am thinking my grandchildren might find opening the shutters way too much fun. I also realized that even if I had a TV hanging above this cabinet I would still want to decorate the top of the cabinet..much like I would want to decorate a mantel.
I found this cabinet that I just loved…of course it wouldn’t hold a TV but I thought you might like to see it
Wouldn’t this look great in a kitchen …or study…or hallway? It is 9 1/2 feet tall so it would look great with my 10 foot high ceilings but sadly it was way over my price range
I also loved this table…
It has leaves that just slide out to seat 10 people. I would love to have a table like this….no storing leaves or lugging them out from under the bed to the dining room. The chairs were really cool and surprisingly comfortable.
So what had I decided about the TV? Hmmmmmm maybe I should have stayed with the fireplace idea.
What is your dream idea for furniture under the TV? How much bigger than the TV should the furniture be? How tall? Is it practical to think that you could put a lamp on each side of a cabinet flanking the TV or would that just block the view of the TV?

None of your pictures were showing up but I got the idea through your writing. I fought the television in the living area for 5 years. . .finally we had an “incident” with the kids not being supervised while holed up watching so we had to move it to the main area of the house. Is there any chance you can *not* have it in the main living area? Since we watch very little of it and never have parties surrounding a televised event I will again move the TV out of our living area in the future. People get soooooooo distracted when it is on! Have you seen photos where televisions are covered up by pieces of sliding artwork? I think that’s neat. And storage space is always a good thing so the best cabinet you can afford would be good. . .but just a blank tv on the wall? No thank you. It’s too distracting. . .but again, I guess I would ask if you could put a small one in the kitchen and then put your larger, “main” one in another room that is more conducive to watching a show, leaving your main living area to decorate, visit, play music, games, or just sit and read. Just another thought to throw in your pile of never-ending decisions
