I love this saying. As a mother of four girls, I can’t even imagine how many loads of laundry I have done through the years. Even though I do a lot, I am not really very good at it. Why? I’m lazy. Mr. Amazing turns everything right side out….zips zippers…you name it, he does it. Me…sort and load. I might remember to treat a stain or two, but not much more.
Since last October, we have been doing all of our laundry here…
I know a lot of you are groaning for me right now, but the truth is it’s not to bad. Once a week the three of us sort the laundry …gathering it from every hiding place that we can find in the cottage. We then take it and load up a ton of machines…presto…it is all done at once. We head home and all fold it together.
I have never had so much help with laundry…and instead of spending all day doing it, it only takes about an hour and a half from start to finish.
I have learned so many things over the course of the year…one, bring lots of quarters. The change machine at ours never works, and the stores near by don’t tend to want to make change for you.
Second…always put your laundry basket under the door of the machine before you open it. It is one thing to drop your clean clothes on your floor at home, but the laundry floor is pretty gross.
Third…Always start your dryer with just one quarter…once it gets running you can put in the rest. I can’t begin to tell you how much money we have lost to broken machines.
The last thing I learned from an elderly woman at the laundromat. She taught us that you want to shake out the clothes when you take them out of the washer.
This makes them dry much faster…which of course means less money.
Do you have any laundromat tips you would like to share?

I always fold/hang clothes while they are warm. I agree that it is so much faster – instead of washing clothes all day long!
I do admit that I shuttered a bit seeing that you have to do your laundry there (mostly because I have bad memories of stolen laundry and scrambling for quarters), but you do make a great point: laundry gets done so much faster than at home. I live in an apartment right now with its own W/D, but they are half size and I’m literally doing laundry from Saturday morning until Sunday night!
My favorite laundry tip is using white vinegar in the place of traditional fabric softener. Some of my workout clothes cannot be washed with liquid softener so I use this instead and it’s much, much cheaper and environmentally friendly!
I did not know that shaking clothes would make them dry faster – I always thought the dryer did the shaking for me! I shake them prior to hanging them on the line so that they won’t be as wrinkly. I also like to take my shirts straight from the dryer and put them on hangers, then straight to the closet. Our closets are large enough to hang all of our t-shirts and this saves so much folding!
Laundromat tips… Sometimes I actually missing doing my laundry at the laundromat. In & out in 2 hours instead of taking all day to wash for my family. Plus the idle chit-chat with people. I miss that as well.
Great tip. I do love the speed of having several washer instead of one and it is good reading time – I say that while my washer is going – so
? I’m not sure it’s valid.
Cute Blog. Have a lovely day.
