If you have been following me long, you may remember all the wood that Mr. Amazing took out of the house we tore down

There was something about the wood that had first drew me to this house. Maybe it brought back memories of the first house we owned.

Well it is now time to drag all that wood out of storage and to get to work.
We decided that instead of trying to sand all of these boards, that it was worth the investment of about $360 in a planer to make this job a lot easier.
It is a pretty easy job….you just push a board in and out it comes on the other side…..but wow does it make a lot of dust!!!!!
The boards are looking great! We now have to decide on what color stain we are planning to use. We bought a walnut stain to try…I’ll let you know how that goes…in the mean time, we have a lot of boards to plane. We are hoping to have enough to do all three porch ceilings and possibly the back patio.

We recently purchased a house in Alabama and the entire thing has knotty pine ceilings! My husband says it’s weird, but he likes it. It does look really good but I wish they would have stained them a bit of a different shade – they are a bit too orangy, if you know what I mean. But still so beautiful! Apparently they had a phobia of sheet rock and paneled the entire house! I am thrilled that over the course of ownership the paneled walls were replaced with sheet rock – that would have been too much like a hunting lodge!
Ours have a orange tint to them too….I am trying to figure out now what color stain I want…seems like everything I put on looks a bit orange…must be something about the type of wood. Enjoy your ceilings…
Looking forward to seeing how the ceilings turn out.
Love the sole on those glittered shoes, I could so easily wear them to church and still feel a little bit glam!
I’m having trouble getting the right “color” stain for my table too (http://jennisseasons.blogspot.com/2012/06/progress-and-compromise.html) so my father-in-law suggested a brand called ZAR. I can’t get it around here but he had a couple sample pots and sent them home with me over the weekend. I haven’t tried them yet but luckily they were the darker color I was going for/hoping for. Have you heard of it?
No I haven’t…let me know how it goes..I am having trouble getting an even coverage. Each board seems to stain so different from the next.
Did you use wood conditioner first?
No…the only conditioner we had said for inside use only …we need to find exterior.
The wood ceilings are going to be beautiful! The staining is pretty frustrating though. Wondering if you’re using English Walnut – I wanted to eventually use it on the red oak floors at our lake house to see if it would tone down the red. I’ll be interested to see the ceilings when they’re done.
