This Weekend’s Project

Things are happening fast around the construction site which for some reason makes it harder for me to blog …I guess I’m a ponderer and life right now has little time to ponder.

I thought I would tell you about one of the special things that we are putting into our new home….a central vacuum system.

I could jump up and down and act all excited, but the truth is I never really thought about wanting one. In fact I don’t seem to think a whole lot about vacuums at all. Looking down right now at my floor I’m thinking I probably should..but I don’t.

I hate to vacuum! I think if they invented a silent vacuum I wouldn’t mind, but that constant noise drives me crazy.

So back to why I am getting a central vacuum system. The vacuum I have stinks…I got thinking that I should probably buy a new one when we get in the house. Then it occurred to me…this is a two story house…how was I going to lug a vacuum up and down the stairs? Well the real answer to that is that I would probably just have Mr. Amazing do it…heheheee. But the point of this house is suppose to be to make things easy for our old age.

I know I know…then why two stories? Let’s not go there right now. We must focus on this vacuum story….hehehee…I’m finding I get distracted just talking about vacuums.

Anyway…I thought about having one vacuum upstairs and one downstairs but that means I would need to find a place to store them. It was Mr. Amazing that suggested we look into the central system. Our daughter and Mr. Amazing had installed one into the Christian School when we were building it many years ago. It has held up well…and I figure you can’t get much tougher use than in a school.

Much to our surprise, the cost of the supplies was only about double the cost of a nice vacuum. So it was time to call daughter #1 who had helped before and to get to work…

One great thing about having all daughters is that you end up with very accomplished women. My daughter’s aren’t afraid of much, and daughter #1 knows her way around a hardware store better than most men.

If you ever do decide to install your own vacuum system, Mr. Amazing has a very helpful tip.

Mark all your joints after you glue them…

It can get confusing on which ones you have and have not done and this little tip can relieve a lot of hmmmmmmms.

I also hate vacuuming, but with 2 dogs that shed like crazy (german shepherd & shepherd mix), I had to vacuum EVERY DAY else my house was looking… well it was driving me crazy. Then one year for a combo birthday-Christmas present, I received a Roomba! Now I have a vacuuming robot that vacuums every day for me, & all I have to do is empty it’s container! I LOVE IT!

Dianne, Have you already wired? If not, maight think about putting outlets in the laundry up at waist level, that’s where you need them. I really wish that I had put them up higher all over our house when we rewired. We did in the office and it is the handiest ever. Hate to lean over behind the couch to plug in a llamp!!!! Just a thought for you.

  3. I am always ruining vacuum cleaners. Central vacuuming sounds very intriguing.
