Deconstructing…

One of the things I knew I wanted when I started this house was the craftsman look. I grew up in a craftsman home in Iowa and I loved it. Something about the woodwork says home to me.

This is a picture of my parents in our dining room many many years ago.

I wish I had more pictures to show you…we had built-ins with leaded glass and wonderful wood windows. That was a happy place for me and probably why I feel this need to recreate it…in a sense. No…I won’t be using oak to trim everything. The reality is my house looks nothing like my childhood home but I am hoping to have touches around that will make me feel like I am being hugged with love from my past.

I always knew that I wanted batten board around the house but we really didn’t think to much about how we were going to do that…..until…the drywall was in …textured and primed. Yep then we walked in and said…hmmmmmm.

We realized that this time we really wanted to do it the right way…so we had the carpenter remove the dry wall every place were going to put batten board.

yep…it broke me heart to see the house going backwards instead of forwards. We then had 1/2 inch plywood put in place of the drywall. We were able to get beautiful plywood that we think is going to paint up wonderful. I’ll keep you posted on how it all turns out.
