Here is a picture of me at my very first blogging conference…
Yep…that is me…the old fart in the middle. The one that is the only mono tasker in the group. For some reason this picture makes me giggle…then it makes me sad.
I really enjoyed the speaker…Lou Mongello….(http://loumongello.com/) If you ever get a chance to hear him speak, do. This is a man that was a lawyer and gave it all up to become a blogger…and I might add he has been very successful at it.
But what makes me sad about the picture is I wonder if everyone else really got to enjoy him like I did. My daughter …sitting next to me tweeting..is the queen of multi tasking. I remember when she was young she was always planning the next event while she was still at an event. I would tell her that life has three elements to it and it is important not to miss any of those.
Planning…how many of us really take the time to enjoy planning an event? I don’t care what it is….enjoy it…something could happen and you may never get to the event, but at least you had the enjoyment of the plan.
Doing…be in the moment. This is not the time to be thinking of the next event. If it is Christmas day, enjoy it…don’t think about the birthday party you have in a month. There will be time for that later. Enjoy the moment.
Remembering….I love to take time after an event to reflect. I want to seal the memory into my brain.
So next time you are at an event try mono-tasking …you might find you like it.

Hi,
I saw your picture the other day and it made me sad too. I delft bad for the speaker and for the people that were missing the speech, especially since you said it was an excellent speech.
I think a lot of us are missing a lot of life “events” on a daily basis. Thanks for the reminder.
Really enjoy following your blog.
Wendy
Thanks Wendy…the truth is they would think that they didn’t miss a thing…most of them were tweeting what they were hearing…when they weren’t looking around to try to find the person that just tweeted that…lol
The 3 steps make a lot of sense – we need to live in the moment.
Dianne, I think your picture should go viral…my bet is that most of the audience is clueless as to how they appear to the person at the lectern. If you MUST tweet or text something, do it and put it away! Multi-task with tact! This picture is priceless!
Hi Dianne
Glad you enjoyed the keynote and thank you for the kind words about it! Sorry I didn’t get a chance to meet and chat with you, but hope you found the event as fun and informative as I did!
Amen!!! I have a child who does the same thing. . .anticipates, talks about, gets obsessed with an up-coming event and then, while there, begins talking about “next time”. Shesh. I’m always saying, “can’t you enjoy the MOMENT?” I agree with Michelle. . .this would be a great pic to go viral.
Glad you enjoyed the conference!!!
