I’ve decided to do a whole decorating series on the HGTV Dream Home….the more I look at the pictures, the moreĀ I realize that there is so much for all of us to learn.
Lets start by looking at the Great room….

The first thing I notice about this room is the high ceilings…why? Because they decorated to draw the eye up. It is so easy for most of us to decorate at eye level, but if you have high ceilings it is important to do something that will enhance them. I am still trying to figure that out for my entry way. I like how they used one large piece instead of a bunch of little things. I think it gives the room a focal point.

Did you notice that they used two coffee tables to make one really large one? I thought that was a clever idea. Also check out the plant in the corner. They stacked a large plant on top of something to make it look massive. Again…another great idea for those of us with high ceilings…but maybe even if you don’t have high ceilings you could use this idea on a bit of a smaller scale.
I have a confession to make …I have a tendency to obsess when it comes to decorating. I will spend all day moving a chair two inches that way and then back again. Now with that in mind lets look at this picture once again.

There are a couple of things in this room that I know would drive me crazy if I had done it. One….why are some of the drapes swagged back and others straight? Two…I would never think that I could put that cabinet there….it doesn’t fit.

It’s too long and to high for this space…yet it works.
So today’s lesson is….if you want your home to look like the pieces were gathered over time, not just picked frrom a catalog…which will make it look cozier..it doesn’t all have to be perfect. Stack up a plant…put a piece of furniture in front of a window…it just might work.

I did not see the whole show but what I did see had too much
lime green in it.
Was not a fan of the cabinets in the kitchen.
I hope to see it again so I can see the whole house.
