Coffee tables are hard for me….I’m not really sure why, but I have a hard time coming up with the perfect coffee table.
Here is my old familyroom.
I liked this coffee table, but when I moved I thought I would like something different. I found this table at a thrift store and something about it said that it had potential.
I think I liked it because it reminded me of my chairs…

In an ugly kind of way, lol.
I love the size of the table, but I have not been able to come up with what color to paint it.
Then came my daughter’s coffee table. She just moved into a new apartment and doesn’t have any room for this rather large coffee table.
Once again I like the size of the table but do I paint it? I think I would like it better if it was white, but then part of me wonders if I then have to many circles going on with my little side tables.
Any thoughts? I can’t just keep hoarding coffee tables. One of these days I am going to come up with a plan.

Interesting question. I don’t like any coffee table. To me, it’s something you have to “walk around” in a room and I don’t use them. Side tables can hold anything I need to set down (like a glass, etc.), so I just don’t bother – weird, I know!
I don’t think no coffee table is werid at all. I didn’t have one for years. But once you have one….we like to put our feet up on it when we are watching tv…that is when we are not sitting around it eating our dinner…lol. I guess I have a love hate relationship with them. They are hard for me to pick out…and very hard for me to decorate…but I love having one.
I believe a glass top whatever table you choose would add some glam. Or how about metallic legs?
Love your new home and hope you are recovering nicely.
I thought about a glass table..I even tried one in the room.I forget to add that to the post lol. The problem is …I built this home for my grandkids…I want every inch of it to be something that they are not only safe around but can enjoy. I want the no’s to be at their house not mine. But the idea of metallic is interesting…hadn’t thought of that
Hmm, this is going to be a tough decision for you. I don’t think I’d go with white, though – too much of a contrast. Good luck!
The white is too stark. The brown is too boring. What about painting the white table (or the one whose style matches your chairs) – and match it to your drapes…
I agree, I really think it’d be pretty and unique if you painted it to match your curtains! It would add a little spunk to the room
What about a large ottoman – square or round – then use a tray when you want to hold drinks, etc. We have a glass table that we put a toss pillow on to rest our feet!
Dianne,
This is a tough decision! I like Lynn’s idea about painting one of the tables although I wouldn’t rule out the round table. I like that one also.
Paint it the color of the drapes, sorry. I forgot to add that that would look really nice.
I feel your pain. I shopped for a coffee table for over a year. I didn’t know what I was looking for. One of those “I’ll know it when I see it” things. I’d go with square. Painted would be lovely. I like the idea of your drape color — maybe glaze it. Check out Miss Mustard Seed Milke paint colors. Some beauties there. Hope you are recovering well.
I have a hard time choosing a coffee table as well. We have two sofas facing each other and have an oval coffee table, a rectangle one with a glass top, and a large ottoman. What I like about the ottoman is: it is soft so I do not have to worry about our grandkids getting hurt on sharp corners, it provides extra seating when needed, an extra ‘table’ when a tray is on it, and it’s more comfortable for putting our feet up. Oh, and I like that I can change it on a whim with slip-covers. (Slip-covers are pretty easy to make.)
I’m actually on the look out for an ottoman with storage. That would be the ultimate coffee table for me. Especially if it’s leather!
