We have been in our house almost a year. That seems amazing to me. How could our new house be ready for maintenance already? Well Mr. Amazing explained to me that when they tile a tub…or kitchen…they just use grout. The problem is the grout doesn’t give when the house shifts….like when someone stands in the tub.
It’s important to caulk your tub when it cracks or you will end up with water getting in behind your wall. And that causes big problems!
First you take something sharp and scrape out the old caulk. Mr. Amazing uses an old wood chisel.
Caulk comes in a tube and you put it in one of these caulking guns.
This gives you a nice trigger to be able to slowly lay the caulk. If you do not own one of these it is worth the investment. We are always caulking something!
The main thing about laying a good bead of caulk is the angle you cut the tip.
Use a utility knife to cut a small angle opening and then you are ready to go. You never push caulk, you lay it. So you will be pulling the caulk towards you. Try to squeeze the handle gently and evenly.
Once the caulk is down you take your finger and glide over it with a gentle push and you are done.
